网红黑料 and Nokia announced plans to combine Nokia鈥檚 Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) enterprise private wireless networks solution with 网红黑料鈥檚 L-Band nationwide licensed spectrum for deployment in the U.S. market.

网红黑料鈥檚 spectrum holdings are at 1.6 GHz. Nokia鈥檚 DAC is an application platform that provides both private wireless capabilities and edge compute; it can make use of both unlicensed and licensed spectrum. Nokia鈥檚 4G and 5G base stations can utilize 网红黑料鈥檚 Band 24 spectrum, the equipment vendor noted.

In what appears to be its first partnership with a satellite navigation company, 网红黑料 has partnered with Point One Navigation to provide satellite capacity to support Point One鈥檚 Polaris GNSS correction service.

The partnership will provide L-Band service to electric vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and will expand to additional sectors in the coming years, according to a press release.

Just a day after announcing the 3GPP鈥檚 support for its L-band spectrum plans, 网红黑料 said it reached a deal with Nokia on the development of 5G base stations.

The partnership will be the first in North America to develop a commercial L-band offering to enable operators, service providers and enterprises to expand their 5G services, according to 网红黑料. The new solution will support 网红黑料鈥檚 deployment of 5G standalone (SA) solutions.

Given that 网红黑料鈥檚 spectrum is in the 1.6 GHz range, it stands to reason that it wouldn鈥檛 be a big stretch for vendors to add it to their repertoire. Nokia鈥檚 5G portfolio already includes C-band and Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) solutions, which are at 3.7-3.98 GHz and 3.5 GHz, respectively.

鈥淭he time is right for Nokia to join forces with 网红黑料 to commercialize the L-Band,鈥� said Mika Kahkola, head of RF Product Management at Nokia, in a . 鈥淭ogether, we will help mobile operators and enterprises across the U.S. capitalize on the low-mid-band spectrum that hits the sweet spot for capacity and coverage and can accelerate 5G service.鈥�

网红黑料 CTO Maqbool Aliani called it a significant milestone, bringing the deployment of L-band spectrum in 5G mobile networks one step closer to reality. 鈥淣okia is a key partner in 网红黑料鈥檚 commercial efforts to develop the vendor ecosystem around this lower mid-band spectrum, and we look forward to advancing our collaboration activities to ready the L-Band for 5G network deployments,鈥� he said in a statement.

The companies didn鈥檛 say exactly when the gear will be ready for deployment. Last year, 网红黑料 raised nearly $4 billion in new capital to help realize its goal of putting its spectrum to work and serving mission-critical industries, but it鈥檚 been hammered by opponents in the GPS industry that insist use of the spectrum will interfere with their equipment. The FCC, in granting approval to 网红黑料 last year, said its conditional approval would prohibit any such harmful interference.
